WACO, Texas—Baylor's Whitney Canion threw a no-hitter and struck out 14 as the 17th
- ranked Bears handed McNeese softball their first shutout loss of the season with a 6-0 win. A hit-by-pitch to McNeese's Ashley Modzelewski
and a walk by Taylor Goree
in the second inning broke up the perfect game.
A five-run second inning gave Baylor an early cushion and one they built on in the sixth inning. Half of the Bears' runs came off solo home runs.
Linsey Hays and Jordan Strickland hit back-to-back home runs in the second inning to jump-start the Bears' offense.
A two RBI double by Ari Hawkins scored Liz Paul and Kaitlyn Thumann for a 4-0 Baylor lead. The double chased Cowgirl starter Jamie Allred
from the circle. Allred exited the game after giving up five runs on six hits in 1 2/3 innings.
A stolen base by Hawkins gave Baylor a 5-0 lead. Hawkins stole home while Holly Holl was caught in a run-down between first and second.
The third solo home run of the game came off the bat of Sarah Smith to extend the lead to 6-0.
McNeese used three pitchers but neither one could slow down the Baylor hitting attack. The loss drops McNeese to 35-15 on the year and Allred took the loss, falling to 23-7. Freshman Rachel Smith
, who relieved Allred, gave up one run on four hits in 3 1/3 innings. Sophomore Emily Vincent
hurled one inning and closed out the game for the Cowgirls.

A doubleheader is scheduled for 5 p.m. Saturday with the series finale set for 1 p.m. Sunday. Seniors Alanna DiVittorio
, Katie Roux
, Kim Kennedy
, Stacey Conley
and Victoria Rich
will be honored following Sunday's game.
