He was an all-conference defensive tackle in the late 1960s and early 1970s. He played at 190 pounds and he became one of the most feared linemen in the Gulf States Conference. Quick as a cat, he was as tough as a bull. In his senior year he was the top tackling lineman on the team and ranked fourth overall. As a junior in 1970 he was named to the all-GSC team. In 1971 McNeese competed as an independent and with Allen's help, rose to No. 1 in the nation. The Cowboys went on to compete in the Grantland Rice Bowl for which Allen was named defen¬sive player of the year. He was also McNeese's defensive player of the year. He became a coach, teacher and guid¬ance counselor after graduation.
