He overcame an early bout with polio to become an all-American football player for the Cowboys. Poche only played two seasons for McNeese - 1965 and 1966 - but he was a standout as both an offensive and defensive tackle and he also handled the team’s place kicking. A Baton Rouge native, he had transferred in from LSU. He was a two-time first team all-Gulf States Conference selection, was named to the NAIA all-American team in 1966, was a McNeese MVP and was offered a football contract by Philadelphia. Out of college he went into the coaching field for a period of time and then entered into private busi­ness. He lives in Frisco, TX.
