A top wide receiver and kick returner, Ellender returned four punts for touchdowns and caught 57 passes during a four year career with the Cowboys. He led the team in pass receptions in 1978 and three times led in punt returns, hauling three back for a school record three tds in 1978. He was the team MVP and an all-SLC selection. He would go on to be drafted in the ninth round by the Houston Oilers and play for two seasons as a kick returner and special teams member. He led the Oilers in kickoff returns (22.7 ypr) and punt returns (8.9 ypr). He lives in Houston and is now president of Home Mortgage Consultants and a mem­ber of the board of directors of American Fidelity, Inc.
