He played defensive back in the early 1970s for the Cowboys and was considered to be one of the top hitters in the Gulf States Conference. Jack Doland, then the head coach, wanted opponents to know where Fournet was at all times so he had him wear a black helmet. He was an all-conference performer who also served as team captain. Fournet intercepted 13 passes during his career, returning them for 111 yards and those totals still rank sixth best on the all-time McNeese list. He tried pro ball after college but had to retire because of injuries. He served on the McNeese staff as an assistant coach for several years and then became an accomplished wildlife taxidermist. He lives in Lake Charles.
