McNeese vs. Louisiana Tech (exhibition)

LAKE CHARLES, LOUISIANA – A new look McNeese Cowgirl volleyball squad will get the 2021 season underway on Saturday when it hosts Louisiana Tech in an exhibition match.  

 The Cowgirls will play their home matches in the Ralph O. Ward Rec Complex this season. First serve is set for 2 p.m. Admission is free but fans are asked to bring their own chairs as the rec complex has limited bleacher seating.  

 Last Saturday, the team held its annual Blue/Gold scrimmage which gave the players an opportunity to experience the game day atmosphere and for the coaching staff to evaluate the team.   

 With six returning players and 14 newcomers, the freshmen are proving to be formidable threats to opposing teams with dual-sport athlete Aryn Johnson earning 12 kills and Jaylin Gordon picking up 10.    

 Second-year head coach Kristee Porter noted that both Johnson and Gordon have tremendous potential and is excited to see how they improve.    

 With four players battling for the starting libero position, freshman Bailey Tillman has been "relentless in her pursuit," Porter added, "by digging and picking up balls that should be kills."     

 Next weekend, the Cowgirls will open their regular season with three matches at the North Texas Invitational.   

 The match schedule is as follows:   

Friday August 27 vs. North Texas (11 a.m.)    

Friday August 27 vs. Grambling (5 p.m.)   

Saturday August 28 vs. South Dakota State (11 a.m.)
