SOC: Cowgirl’s Ellefson and Johnson Earn Weekly SLC Honors

FRISCO, Tex.- A week in which the McNeese Cowgirls out-scored their opponents 13-0 on the field, off the field, sophmore defender Martine Ellefsen and senior forward Havana Johnson were recognized for their individual performances. Ellefsen was named Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week and Havana Johnson was selected as the Offensive Player of the Week. Freshman GK Jackie Kelley was also recognized as an honorable mention for her efforts in the net the league announced Tuesday. In her third career start, Martine Ellefsen (Kolsaas, Norway) recorded the first points of her career by assisting on the goals of Anna Watson and Delana Friesen. Ellefsen was a vital part of a defense that recorded back-to-back shutouts (Alcorn, Prairie View A&M). This is the first weekly honor of her career. 

Havana Johnson (Coeur d'Alene, Idaho) registered her first career hat trick in the 13-0 victory against Alcorn. Johnson's first of three goals was scored 123 seconds into the game and represented the game-winning goal. 

Jackie Kelley (Benicia, CA.) in starts two and three of her career, Kelly recorded a shutout in each. She logged 185 minutes and recorded a 1-0-1 record. 

The Cowgirls (3-2-1) open conference play at home against Nicholls and Southeastern at 7 p.m. CT Friday and 6 p.m. Sunday, respectively.
