FRISCO, Texas—McNeese softball junior catcher Emily Phillips has been named this week's Southland Conference "Hitter of the Week", the league announced Monday.
 
The native of Chesapeake, Virginia was 4 for 6 with two doubles, one home run, three RBI and a .667 average in wins over #15 LSU and UT-Arlington last week.
 
Phillips provided the offensive output in the Cowgirls' win over LSU.  Trailing 3-0 in the third inning, Phillips' two-run home run sparked the Cowgirls comeback, cutting the lead to 3-2 before McNeese tied the game with another run in the inning. She ended the game going 2 for 3 with a two RBI home run and scored a run.  She followed that game with a 2 for 3 plate appearance with both hits being doubles in the win over UT-Arlington.
 
The honor for Phillips is her first of the season and she is the fourth Cowgirl to earn "Hitter of the Week" honors this season.
