JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – McNeese's outdoor track and field season came to an end on Saturday at the 2016 NCAA Division I East Preliminary Round when junior triple jumper John Lemke failed to advance to the national meet despite posting the second-best jump of his career.
 
Lemke held firm with a top five position through two attempts at 51-feet even but fell down the ranks during the final round, dropping to 24^th to end the competition.
 
The top 12 placers advanced to the NCAA finals in Eugene, Oregon. Bobby Plummer of Cornell finished in 12^th place with a jump of 51-10 ½.
 
Lemke, a Lake Charles native, was one of seven McNeese athletes to compete in this year's preliminary round.
