Lemke battles but falls short of advancing in triple jump

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – McNeese's outdoor track and field season came to an end on Saturday at the 2016 NCAA Division I East Preliminary Round when junior triple jumper John Lemke failed to advance to the national meet despite posting the second-best jump of his career.

Lemke held firm with a top five position through two attempts at 51-feet even but fell down the ranks during the final round, dropping to 24th to end the competition.

The top 12 placers advanced to the NCAA finals in Eugene, Oregon. Bobby Plummer of Cornell finished in 12th place with a jump of 51-10 ½.

Lemke, a Lake Charles native, was one of seven McNeese athletes to compete in this year's preliminary round.
