In her first season in the Southland, McNeese State junior Courtni Bauer was named the league's newcomer of the year. Bauer, a Pottsboro, Texas, native is the first Cowgirl to earn the award since Trisha Seale did in 2004. The middle blocker finished eighth in the conference with a .287 hitting percentage. The Blinn Junior College transfer notched a season-high 15 kills in a match against Youngstown State.
