Boxscore

HOUSTON, Texas--  McNeese women's soccer team opened its 2012 season with a 2-1 win over Texas Southern here Friday night.  The Cowgirls took a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute on Brennan Moss' first collegiate goal.  Sophomore Amanda Denton was credited with the assists which is her first career assist.

“I was very excited to have the opportunity to start.  I really wanted to prove myself to my teammates.  Scoring my first collegiate goal was an amazing feeling,” said Moss.

Texas Southern tied the game one all five minutes later in the 26th minute from a goal by Gabriella Perales.

Junior midfielder Johna Germany scored what proved to be the game winning goal in the 31st minute to give the Cowgirls a 2-1 lead.
The Cowgirls outshot the Tigers 13-6 and was led with four shots from Moss.  Eight of the Cowgirls' shots came in the first half.  Senior goalie Katie Seeber picked up the shutout and was credited with one save.

“It was a good first game considering the environment we played in.  We stepped up our play in the second and kept them on their side of the field. I saw better combinations as the game went on and that's what I like to see,” said head coach Scooter Savoie.

McNeese will host UL-Lafayette in its home opener at 1 p.m. Sunday at Cowgirl Field.  The Cowgirls will be available for autographs following the game.
