LAKE CHARLES – The McNeese soccer team set personal bests Tuesday night as eight different Cowgirls were able to score to put away Texas Southern, 12-2.

"This was a great win for us tonight, we were good in all phases of the game," said head coach Scooter Savoie. "The biggest credit was having eight different players score and four different players score multiple goals.  It was a great team effort."

Amanda Denton, Tori Lasiter, Haley Lyons and Krista Steinbeiser each finished the game with two goals.  Steinbeiser led the team with two goals, five shots and three shots on goal.

"It was great team effort for us tonight," said Steinbeiser.  "Our passes were on tonight and everyone was making good runs so it was very exciting for us.

Freshmen Kayla Goedicke, Hannah Sutherland and Kathryn Danhauser each scored their first career goals while senior Johna Germany finished the night with a goal and two assitst.

McNeese wasted no time getting on the board as Steinbeiser, used an assist from Callie Allbright, who finished the game with three assists, to shoot in the first goal of the game from the left game.

Denton added the Cowgirls' next goal in the 11th minute as she scored on a breakaway.  Freshman Savannah LaRicci was credited with the assist.

"We want to be a team that attacks and we believe that attacking in soccer wins games," said Savoie.  "It's important that our players on the backline can contribute to that effort so that we can find ourselves in goal scoring positions."

Texas Southern came back from a two-goal deficit to tie the game when the Tigers scored in the 19th and the 23rd minute of action.

McNeese found its rhythm towards the end of the first half when it scored the next three goals to take a 5-2 lead at halftime.  The Cowgirls scored on goals from Lasiter, Steinbeiser and Goedicke

After halftime, the Cowgirls scored three-straight goals in a span of five minutes to take control of the contest.  Lyons netted back-to-back goals in the 47th and 48th minute.  Denton recorded an assist on Lyons' first goal.

Lasiter, with an assist from Allbright, scored in the 51st minute to put the Cowgirls up 8-2.  Denton would score another goal in the 60th minute along with an assist from Allbright while Germany scored off of a deflection off the goalie.  Freshman Brooke Dusek recorded the assist on the goal.

The Cowgirl defense took control of the game allowing only three goals in the second half while sophomore goalie Maggie Marks recorded three saves on the night.

"We just had to adjust and get tighter on defense after they scored their first two goals," said Allbright.  "We just had to fix that little problem, which worked for us and we were able to accomplish our goals tonight."

McNeese sealed the win in the final six minutes of the game as freshmen Kathryn Danhauser and Hannah Sutherland scored the last two goals to give the Cowgirls a 12-2 lead.  Sutherland's goal was assisted by Germany.

The Cowgirls will be back in action on Sunday when they welcome Louisiana-Monroe to Cowgirl Field for a 1 p.m. matchup.
