LAKE CHARLES – The McNeese women's soccer team will take to the pitch in for an in-state rivalry showdown against Southland Conference foe Northwestern State on Sunday with the match set for a 1 o'clock start.
 
The Cowgirls (4-8-1, 2-4 SLC) are coming off a thrilling overtime showdown against conference leader Stephen F. Austin Friday night. The Ladyjacks were able to score the golden goal for the victory but were held to just one goal for the third time this season by McNeese.
 
Sophomore Savannah LaRicci continues to be at the forefront of the Cowgirl offense with four goals and two assists this year. LaRicci leads in almost every offensive statistical category while senior Tori Lasiter follows right behind with two assists and 33 shots taken this season.
 
Northwestern State (3-10-1, 0-5-1 SLC) is looking for its first league win this season after having lost three straight to Southland Conference foes, including a 3-0 shutout to Abilene Christian on Friday.
 
Esdeina Gonzalez leads the Lady Demon offense with seven goals and one assist on the year. NSU has managed a balanced attack all season with 12 different players finding the net.
 
Sunday's match will mark the 26^th all-time meeting between McNeese and Northwestern State, with the Lady Demons leading the series 12-8-5. The Cowgirls dropped a 2-1 overtime decision to NSU last season in Natchitoches.
 
With just five matches left in the regular season and only six teams allowed to enter the Southland Conference Tournament in November, the Cowgirls are on the outside looking in as they right on the bubble in seventh place. McNeese currently has four points on the year while Houston Baptist, who currently resides in sixth place, has tallied five points on the year.
