Sisco Scores Lone Goal in Soccer Shutout

LAKE CHARLES – For the second time this season, McNeese freshman Sierra Sisco provided the game-winning goal as the McNeese women's soccer team held on to score a dominating 1-0 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Friday night.

With the victory, McNeese (4-6-1, 2-2 SLC) recorded their fourth shutout on the season while picking up their first win in two matches. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (2-5-2, 1-3 SLC) dropped its third league match of the season after defeating Central Arkansas last weekend.

"I thought it was a well played game by our team tonight," said head coach Scooter Savoie. "The game went through some phases where we were able to recognize the situation and make adjustments. We had a great early start in the game and were able to pressure them which led us to creating the corner that in turn created the game-winner."

Sisco, the newly dubbed super-sub, provided the Cowgirls with a spark off the bench once again as she provided her second game-winning goal of the season. Sisco now has now netted three goals total on the year.

"It was great to be able to come off the bench and impact the game this evening," said Sisco. "A huge thanks goes to my team who has helped me prepare for moments like tonight. It's nice to know that my teammates will give me the chance to contribute and help the team succeed."

After entering the match in the 30th minute of play, Sisco utilized a corner kick from senior Krista Steinbeiser that was first contacted by senior Tori Lasiter and sophomore Savannah LaRicci and rocket a shot past the goalkeeper for the lone goal in the 33rd minute. Both Lasiter and LaRicci picked up their second assist on the season.

"Sierra has really done a great job all season of finding herself in the right spot and being able to provide some great scoring opportunities," said Savoie. "Not only has her scoring been effective but she has really balanced out her position well when we needed it. What a great opportunity for her tonight."

Freshman Gabi D'Alesandro proved to be the most active Cowgirl on the offensive end of the field as she attempted a team-leading six shots in the match with two shots on frame on the night.

Junior Lauren Sestak was outstanding in goal for McNeese in her first start of the season with four saves en route to her second career clean sheet. Sestak helped direct the Cowgirl defense that pitched its third shutout in six matches.

"Lauren did well inside the posts for us tonight," said Savoie. "She has worked really hard all year and even though she hasn't seen much action this season, she didn't let that discourage her. She has continued to work hard and earn her opportunity tonight and she took full advantage."

McNeese outshot the Islanders by a 17-8 count on the final stat sheet and also led in shots on-target 9-4. AMCC led in corner kicks by a 5-3 advantage.

The Cowgirls will hit the road once again as they travel to take on Houston Baptist on Sunday. The match is slated to begin at 1 p.m. with fans able to follow the action by following @McNeeseSoccer on Twitter.
