LAKE CHARLES – The McNeese women's soccer team looks to return to the win column Friday night as the Cowgirls get set to face off against Southland Conference power Stephen F. Austin at 6 p.m. during an evening full of activities and events in conjunction with "Strike for A Cure" and Senior Night.
Friday's match is the annual "Pink Game" as it will be used to promote breast cancer awareness to those in attendance. The first 100 fans through the gates will receive a free t-shirt or wristband for their attendance while pizza will also be served. Halftime festivities include a raffle drawing as well as fun games for the students.
Friday is also "Senior Night" at Cowgirl Field, as six McNeese seniors will be honored for their outstanding performances during the last four seasons. Among those being recognized after the match include
Haley Lyons,
Tori Lasiter,
Krista Steinbeiser,
Amanda Denton,
Allison Northcutt and
Cheyenne Ganley.
The Cowgirls (4-7-1, 2-3 SLC) enter Friday's contest following a split weekend that included a 1-0 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi before falling to Houston Baptist in overtime.
The Ladyjacks (8-2-1, 4-0 SLC) come into the weekend match-up with one of the hottest streaks in the nation, going 15 consecutive matches without a loss in conference play. Stephen F. Austin currently sits atop of the Southland Conference standings as the only undefeated team in league play.
McNeese suffered a 2-0 defeat to the Ladyjacks in their last meeting in Nacogdoches in 2013, as Stephen F. Austin owns a 21-6-3 mark in the all-time series. The last McNeese victory in the series came during the 2007 season in Lake Charles.
