LAKE CHARLES-- The McNeese volleyball team couldn't ask for a better opportunity than the one that stands in front of them when they will travel to Nicholls Saturday for the right to advance to the Southland Conference Tournament next week.
McNeese (15-16, 5-10 SLC) and Nicholls (9-19, 5-10 SLC) enter the final regular season match at 2 p.m. Saturday tied for eighth place in the league standings. The winner of the match will earn the eighth and final spot in next week's Southland Conference Tournament that will be held in Natchitoches.
The Cowgirls, who have won three of their last five matches, will look to sweep the Colonels this season after defeating Nicholls in straight set in Lake Charles on Oct. 30.
Senior Rachal Cagnina has been doing her part to keep her final season alive as she leads McNeese and ranks seventh in the SLC with a .285 hitting percent. Cagnina also leads the team with 306 kills and 69 blocks.
Other leaders on the team are
Malina Sanchez with 376 digs and a league high 68 service aces. Setter
Kelly Graham leads the Cowgirls and ranks seventh in the SLC with 9.32 assists per set.
