Cowgirls Travel To No. 3 Texas On Wednesday

LAKE CHARLES--  McNeese women's basketball will face their second Top 10 opponent this season when the Cowgirls travel to Austin, Texas Wednesday to take on third-ranked Texas in a 7 p.m. game.
 
Wednesday's game will be broadcast on the McNeese Sports Network, Cajun Radio (1470/1290 AM). Audio is available at Cajunradio.com. McNeese (5-3) is coming off a disappointing 66-63 road loss at Louisiana-Monroe last Saturday that snapped a two game winning streak.  Junior guard Allison Baggett, who was named the Southland Conference Player of the Week after averaging 28.5 ppg. last week, leads McNeese in scoring with 17.1 ppg. Baggett also leads the Cowgirls with an 88.9 free throw percent.  She has scored in double figures in five of the last six games and is coming off a career-tying 31 points against UL-Monroe.
 
Senior forward Talisa Boyd leads the team in rebounds (5.8) and a 55.6 field goal percent.  Boyd is third on the team in scoring with 5.8 ppg.
 
Texas (8-0) is coming off a 74-34 win over Southland Conference foe Northwestern State on Sunday. Other impressive Longhorns wins came in an 87-81 overtime win at then no. 1 Stanford on Nov. 20 and nationally ranked Tennessee on Nov. 30.
 
For the second time this season, McNeese will face a team with a player named to the Naismith Trophy Women's 50 Watch List and the Wooden Award Preseason Top 30, two of the most prestigious awards handed out in women's basketball.
 
Senior forward Nneka Enemkpali who was named to both list, is one of three Texas players averaging in double figures. She is second on the team in scoring with 12.0 ppg. and leads the team with 8.6 rpg.  Kelsey Lang is the leading scorer with 13.1 ppg.  Ariel Atkins is also averaging double figures with 10.6 ppg.
 
Texas holds a 5-0 all-time record against McNeese with the last meeting coming in 2005 with Texas picking up an 80-26 win.
