LAKE CHARLES—McNeese women's basketball returns from the Christmas break Monday night to host Texas Southern Monday in a 7 p.m. game. The game will be the final non-conference game before opening Southland Conference action against preseason favorite Stephen F. Austin on Jan. 3.

McNeese (5-5) returns to Burton Coliseum where they hold a 5-1 record this season and the Cowgirls will look to snap a three game losing streak. McNeese has dropped their last three games at UL-Monroe, at Texas and at Rice. Two of the three losses have been by a combined five points including a 57-55 overtime loss at Rice on Dec. 19.
Junior guard
Allison Baggett continues to lead the Cowgirls in scoring and ranks fourth in the league with an average of 16.6 points per game. Baggett is 24 points away from scoring her 1,000
th career point. When she does, she will be the 14
th Cowgirl to reach that plateau. The last two McNeese players to score 1,000 points were her twin sisters Ashlyn and Caitlyn in 2012.
Junior point guard
Jayln Johnson is also averaging in double figures with 10.5 ppg. and is dishing out a team high 2.8 assists. Johnson is averaging 15.7 ppg. in the last three games and is coming off a 15 point game against Rice.
Senior
Talisa Boyd leads the Cowgirls with 6.1 rebounds per game and a 56.1 field goal shooting percent. Boyd is third on the team in scoring with 5.2 ppg.
Texas Southern (3-7) is coming off a come-from-behind 69-63 win against Rice on Dec. 22. The Tigers have also picked up wins over Southland Conference foe Sam Houston State and IUPU in their fifth game of the season.
Three players are averaging in double figures for the Tigers and they are led by Diamonisha Sohpus' 12.2 ppg. Brianna Sidney is averaging 11.9 and Alexus Johnson is averaging 10.8. Morgan Simmons leads Texas Southern with 7.2 rebounds per game while Johnson is averaging 6.8.
