TULSA, Okla.- The McNeese volleyball team ended the Tulsa Hurricane Classic with a 0-2 record following its 3-0 (25-18, 25-13, 26-24) loss to Tulsa Saturday night.
McNeese fell 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-22) to Oral Roberts earlier Saturday morning, dropping its record to 9-5 on the year. McNeese will return home to host Northwestern State Thursday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m.
Despite being much shorter than Tulsa, McNeese ended the match outblocking Tulsa 18-13 with
Amber Fryer and
Rachel Cagnina collecting four blocks apiece.
The Cowgirls trailed early in all three sets and nearly extended the match to four sets after tying set three at 24 all after trailing 24-20. A block solo and a kill by
Chrysta Stuart cut the Tulsa lead to 24-22. Stuart and
Malina Sanchez teamed up for a block assist to bring the Cowgirls to within one point (24-23). After a Tulsa timeout, Sanchez's kill tied the set at 24. Kills by Tulsa's Erica Bohannon and Valerie El Houssine gave Tulsa the 26-24 third set win and the overall match victory.
Sanchez, Fryer and
Kelly Graham all led McNeese with six kills apiece while
Kimberlyn Patterson picked up 18 digs for the Cowgirls.
