Soccer Travels to Sam Houston State on Sunday

LAKE CHARLES – The McNeese women's soccer team continues Southland Conference action on Sunday as the Cowgirls make the trip to Huntsville, Texas to face Sam Houston State in a match slated to begin at 1 p.m.
 
McNeese (3-5-1, 1-1 SLC) looks to bounce back from a shutout loss to Southeastern Louisiana last Sunday after beginning league play with a 3-2 victory over Nicholls.
 
Leading the Cowgirls offensively is sophomore Savannah LaRicci who has seven points on the season with three goals and an assist. LaRicci also leads the team with 25 total shots and 13 on-target shots.
 
Sam Houston State (2-7, 1-1 SLC) scored its first conference victory of the season in a 4-1 drubbing over Incarnate Word. The Bearkats fell to Abilene Christian in their conference opener.
 
Shelby McDaniel leads the Sam Houston offense with eight points on the season with four goals and a team-high 21 shots.
 
Sunday's match will mark the 12th all-time meeting between McNeese and Sam Houston State, with the Bearkats holding a narrow 6-5 lead in the series. Sam Houston has won the past six meetings against the Cowgirls, who last scored a victory in the series in 2007.
