LAKE CHARLES-- McNeese women's basketball team will look to turn their road woes around Saturday when the Cowgirls head to Huntsville, Texas Saturday for a 2 p.m. Southland Conference contest. The game is the first of four straight road games for the Cowgirls.
McNeese (8-7, 2-2 SLC) will not only be searching for their first road win of the season but the Cowgirls will look to snap a two game losing skid as well. The Cowgirls (0-5) on the road have dropped games to nationally ranked Texas A&M and Texas along with road games at UL-Monroe, an overtime loss at Rice and most recently a conference road loss at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi last Saturday.
Saturday's game will see the league's second leading scorer in McNeese's
Allison Baggett and the fifth leading scorer in Sam Houston State's Shernice Robertson. Baggett is averaging 17.1 ppg. and has scored in double figures in seven of the last nine games. Baggett is coming off a 17-point game against Abilene Christian on Wednesday.
Robertson is averaging 16.5 ppg. and is coming off a 31-point game in a 67-64 loss at Nicholls on Thursday. Sam Houston State will enter the game with a 3-12 overall record and a 2-3 conference record. The Bearkats' wins were against Incarnate Word and New Orleans.
Sam Houston State is averaging 59.0 ppg., 36.5 rpg., and lead the league with 22.1 turnovers per game.
The Cowgirls enter the game averaging 64.1 ppg. 39.8 rpg. and 15.7 turnovers per game. Junior
Jayln Johnson is also averaging in double figures with 11.1 ppg. Senior
Talisa Boyd continues to lead the team with 5.8 rpg., and a 49.3 field goal percent.
