LAKE CHARLES—After downing preseason favorite Stephen F. Austin in their Southland Conference opener on Saturday, the McNeese women's basketball team will look to carry that momentum into Monday's 5:30 p.m. game against Houston Baptist, the Southland's second best scoring offense.
The game will be broadcast on the McNeese Sports Network, Cajun Radio (1470/1290 AM). Audio is available at Cajunradio.com. Tyler Williams and Brian Benoit will deliver the play-by-play. All links are available on McNeesesports.com.
McNeese (7-5, 1-0 SLC) has had the fortune of a few players stepping up on the offensive side lately, helping leading scorer
Allison Baggett. Baggett has led the Cowgirls in scoring all season long and enters the game as the league's third leading scorer with 17.1 ppg. Guards
Amber Donnes and
Jayln Johnson have been two players in the last few games to contribute on offense.
Donnes showed she is a three-point scoring threat two games ago, ending the game with a career high 17 points against Texas Southern. It was Donnes' back-to-back three's late in the game against Stephen F. Austin that helped the Cowgirls to the victory.
Johnson's scoring ability gives the Cowgirls another scoring threat but she is can also dish the ball when needed. She has scored in double figures in the last five games and is second on the team in scoring with 12.1 ppg. Johnson has averaged 20.0 ppg. in the last two games and has scored her last 21 points from the free throw line, including a perfect 14-of-14 from the charity stripe against Stephen F. Austin. Johnson leads the Cowgirls and ranks third in the league in assists with 3.8 per game.
