LAKE CHARLES—McNeese women's basketball will travel to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Saturday for its first Southland Conference road game of the season in a game that will be significant for many reasons.
A win by the Cowgirls would give head coach Brooks Donald Williams 132 career wins, making her the school's all-time winningest coach. Williams tied the record with the win over Houston Baptist on Monday, which was held by McNeese Associate AD, and Compliance Coordinator,
Bridget Martin.
The win will also keep McNeese undefeated in conference play and it would be the first road win for the Cowgirls this season. McNeese is 0-4 on the road with its losses being at Texas A&M, UL-Monroe, Texas, and Rice.
McNeese (8-5, 2-0 SLC) is coming off a come from behind 60-57 home win over Houston Baptist Monday night. The Cowgirls enter the game as one of two teams undefeated in the SLC. Northwestern State leads the SLC with a 3-0 conference record.
Juniors
Allison Baggett and
Jayln Johnson continue to pace the Cowgirls in scoring with 16.4 ppg., and 12.4 ppg., respectively. Johnson has made a school-record 23 consecutive free throws in the last three games.
Senior
Talisa Boyd leads the Cowgirls with 6.0 rpg. and sophomore
Amber Donnes has provided the Cowgirls with a three-point threat of late. Donnes is shooting 36.6 percent from behind the arc.
Texas A&M-CC (5-8, 1-1 SLC) is coming off their first SLC win with a come from behind 56-51 home win over Lamar Thursday night. The Islanders also have two players averaging in double figures and are led by Shay Weavers' 15.4 overall average and 11.5 ppg. in conference games only. Olivia Fouty is averaging 12.1 ppg. on the season and 13.5 ppg. in SLC play. Fouty also leads TAMU-CC with 9.2 rpg.
