Volleyball Hosts League Leading Texas A&M-CC Saturday

LAKE CHARLES—Winning streaks are made to be broken and Saturday's 12:30 p.m. volleyball match between McNeese and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi will end one team's winning streak.
 
McNeese (10-13, 5-3 SLC) sits in fourth place in the league standings and enter the match on the league's second longest winning streak of five matches. The Cowgirls have won their last four matches in straight sets and are coming off a 3-0 win over Houston Baptist Thursday night. Texas A&M-CC (21-4, 9-0 SLC) is undefeated in league play and are riding the longest winning streak in the SLC at 11 matches. The Islanders defeated Nicholls in straight sets Thursday night.
 
Senior outside hitter Malina Sanchez continues to lead McNeese with 257 kills and ranks ninth in the SLC with 2.95 per set. Kelly Graham ranks 7th in the SLC with 798 assists for an average of 9.07 and junior Bridget Justis ranks 6th in the SLC with 353 digs for an average of 4.01 per set.
 
The Islanders enter the match with the SLC's best hitting percent (.239), kills (13.26), assists (12.41), digs (17.03), and are holding opponents to a .146 hitting percent. Ivey Baresh leads the Islanders with 229 kills (3.21 per set) while Brittany Gilpin leads the team and ranks second in the conference with a .386 hitting percent. Kristyn Nicholson leads the league with 10.60 assists per set and Kate Klepetka leads the SLC with 5.96 digs per set. Nicholson also leads Texas A&M-CC with 31 service aces on the season.
