Soccer Battles AMCC With Postseason Spots Up For Grabs

LAKE CHARLES – The McNeese State women's soccer team will wrap up its final road trip of the regular season on Sunday as the Cowgirls are slated to take on Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at the Dugan Family Soccer & Track Stadium at 1 p.m.

Sunday's match will have a big part in the postseason fate of both McNeese and AMCC. The Islanders currently sit in fifth while the Cowgirls are on the outside looking in at seventh. Only the top six teams are eligible for the SLC Tournament.

With weather affecting most of Texas this weekend due to Hurricane Patricia, the match will be monitored closely and updates will be provided regarding possible rescheduling of Sunday's match.

Cowgirl fans can follow all of the action Sunday via "Live Stats" by logging on to the soccer schedule page on McNeeseSports.com. Live video will also be available for a fee for fans to watch by clicking on the "Live Video" link on the soccer schedule page.

McNeese (6-9, 3-6 SLC) was downed by defending Southland Conference Tournament champion Houston Baptist, 3-1, Friday night. Sophomore Gabi D'Alesandro provided the only goal for the Cowgirls.

D'Alesandro has paced the offense this season with a team-high four goals as well as four assists. Junior Bettina Brulhart is second on the squad with three goals and three assists. A total of 10 players have contributed at least one goal for McNeese this year.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (4-9-2, 4-4-1 SLC) captured a 2-1 victory over Lamar on Friday night. The Islanders have won two in a row and four of their last five matches.

Hailey Sutton leads AMCC with seven points on the season as she has scored three goals and recorded two assists. Goalkeeper Megan Delaney has a .777 save percentage along with one shutout.

Sunday's match marks the fourth all-time meeting between McNeese and A&M-Corpus Christi, with the Cowgirls leading the series 2-1. The Cowgirls took last year's meeting in Lake Charles with a 1-0 victory over AMCC.
