LAKE CHARLES-- After securing a spot in the Southland Conference Tournament with a win over Incarnate Word last Saturday, the McNeese volleyball team will be playing for tournament seeding in its final two matches beginning with Tuesday's 7 p.m. match against New Orleans in Memorial Gym. The Cowgirls will conclude the regular season Saturday, Nov. 14 on Senior Day against Nicholls.
McNeese (12-17, 7-7 SLC) will enter Tuesday's match tied for fourth place with UNO (18-13, 7-7 SLC) and Houston Baptist. The Privateer's defeated the Cowgirls 3-1 in New Orleans on Oct. 30. New Orleans will come into the match riding a six match-winning streak.
As a team, McNeese ranks third in assists, fourth in hitting percent and kills in Southland Conference matches only.
Senior
Malina Sanchez, who has been carrying the Cowgirls on offense ranks second in the SLC in kills (233) in conference matches only. Sanchez is second on the team with 293 digs and 20 service aces. Senior setter
Kelly Graham ranks sixth in the SLC in assists with 582 for an average of 9.86 per set. Junior
Bridget Justis ranks fourth in digs with 279 (4.73 per set). Graham and Justis both lead the Cowgirls with 22 service aces apiece.
UNO is led in kills Blessing Dunn's 263 on the year. Kaitlyn Grice has 229 and leads UNO with 87 blocks. Celeste Ramirez has 925 assists on the season and is averaging 8.49 per set. As a team, the Privateers have 204 service aces on the season with seven players having 10 or more on the season. Shaylene Reimer has a team high 43.
