Soccer Opens Season At ULM Sunday

LAKE CHARLES – The McNeese State women's soccer team will officially start its 2015 season slate Sunday when it makes the trip north to take on the Warhawks of ULM in a match set for a 3 p.m. kickoff.

Fans can follow the action through McNeese's social media platforms as live updates and coverage for the match is available by liking McNeese Sports on Facebook and following @McNeeseSoccer on Twitter.

Cowgirl fans can also follow the match via the Live Stats link on the schedule page.

The Cowgirls will get their first taste of regular season action after inclement weather forced them to postpone their season opening match Friday evening against Prairie View A&M. That match has been rescheduled for a 6 o'clock start time on Tuesday, Aug. 25.

ULM (0-1) dropped a heartbreaking season opener to rival Louisiana Tech Friday night in a 2-1 decision. The Warhawks used a header from junior Mary Ashton Lembo for the only score in the match. ULM returns seven starters from last season's squad that finished 8-10-1 overall and 2-7 in the Sun Belt Conference.

McNeese holds a 9-7-2 advantage in the all-time series against ULM with last year's meeting resulting in a 0-0 double overtime draw in Lake Charles. The last five matches have ended in favor of the Cowgirls with the last ULM series win occurring in 2004.

After playing ULM on Sunday, the Cowgirls will make the trip back home with a mid-week tilt against Prairie View before hitting the road again to play Texas State on Aug. 28.
