McNeese (3-0) scored its third consecutive victory to start the season Friday night as it pulled out a 1-0 shutout victory over Texas State in San Marcos. The Cowgirls have played exceptionally well having not surrendered a single goal since the eighth minute of their first match on the year at ULM. It seems as though each member of the squad has found their role and is working hard to accomplish the ultimate goal of the entire team.

The offensive unit ranks near the top of every category in the Southland Conference during the early part of the slate. McNeese leads the league in goals (8), points (23) and goals per game (2.67). The Cowgirl backline has proven to be one of the toughest in the conference to score on as it has allowed just one goal in three matches. McNeese is just one of two teams in the league to remain undefeated and post two shutouts.

The team continues to receive multiple contributors as the sixth different Cowgirls scored in Friday's tilt at Texas State. McNeese has a total of 10 student-athletes that have contributed at least one point in the first three matches.

Tulsa (3-0) enters Sunday's match having scored a victory in its first three matches. The Hurricane squad shut out Southern Illinois on Friday after scoring two second half goals and have also defeated Mercer and Missouri Southern this season.

The Hurricane is one of the few teams in the nation to have returned all 11 starters from a year ago. Tulsa also returns 25 letter winners from a team that finished 11-8-2 overall in 2014.

McNeese has faced off against Tulsa only once in program history back during the 2008 season. The Hurricane took the inaugural meeting with a 3-0 decision over the Cowgirls in the Oral Roberts Invitational.

After the completion of Sunday afternoon's contest, McNeese will return home for an in-state rivalry match against UL-Lafayette scheduled for Friday, Sept. 4 at 7 p.m.
