Soccer Hits The Road To Take On Houston

LAKE CHARLES – The McNeese State women's soccer team will be back in action Friday evening when the Cowgirls head to Southeast Texas for a bout with the University of Houston set to take place at the Carl Lewis Complex at 7 p.m.

Cowgirl fans can access "Live Stats" by logging on to the soccer schedule page on McNeeseSports.com. Live video will be available for a fee this weekend and fans can watch by clicking on the "Live Video" link on the soccer schedule page.

Fans can receive in-game updates by following @McNeeseSoccer on Twitter and by liking the McNeese Sports page on Facebook.

Tickets for Friday's match are on sale starting at just $8 for general admission. Youth tickets (Ages 3-High School) will be sold for $5.

McNeese (3-2) will look to put a halt to its two-game losing skid over the weekend after losing a pair of tough contests to Tulsa and UL-Lafayette. The Cowgirls have battled injuries over the last two weeks but are expected to come out in full force for Friday night's matchup.

The Cowgirls have received profound performances from multiple student-athletes since the beginning of the season and are impressed with the progression of the newcomers who look to make a name for themselves.

Sophomore Gabi D'Alesandro leads the team with two goals and an assist on the season while junior Bettina Brulhart has also scored two goals. The McNeese defense has supported the teams efforts in posting two shutouts while holding teams to one goal or less in four of the first five matches.

Houston (1-4) split a pair of matches last weekend that began with a 4-0 shutout over Southland Conference foe Incarnate Word before falling to North Texas, 3-0. The Cougars will host McNeese in the first of a five game home stretch.

Selena Peters leads UH in offensive points (11), goals (5) and shots (11) while Lexa Green has provided the only game-winning goal on the year.

The Cougars return seven starters and 16 letterwinners from last year's squad and welcome nine newcomers to the team.

Houston leads the all-time series against McNeese, 5-0. The Cougars scored a 2-0 victory over the Cowgirls last season in Lake Charles. Friday's contest between the two teams will be played in Houston for the first time since 2009.

McNeese will begin Southland Conference action against Southeastern Louisiana in Lake Charles on Friday, Sept. 18.
