Volleyball Opens Play At South Alabama Jaquar Invite Friday

LAKE CHARLES—McNeese volleyball will look to build on its first win of the season when the Cowgirls take part in their third tournament of the season this weekend at the South Alabama Jaguar Invitational.
 
McNeese (1-4) is coming off a thrilling five set win over UT-Martin last Tuesday to record its first win of the season. The Cowgirls will take on Samford at 4 p.m. Friday with matches against South Alabama (1 p.m.) and Houston Baptist (4 p.m.) scheduled for Saturday. South Alabama enters the tournament with a 2-4 record while Houston Baptist has a 4-3 record.
 
Sophomore Rae Myers continues to lead the Cowgirls with 23 kills for an average of 3.00 per set. Myers also has 11 blocks to her credit. Senior setter Kelly Graham is averaging 7.05 assists per set while junior Bridget Justis has a team high 69 digs for an average of 3.63 per set.  The Cowgirls are led in blocks by freshman Monica Hudgins who has 14 on the season.
 
Samford will enter the tournament with a 2-2 record with its most recent win coming in a five set match against Tennessee State. The Bulldogs' other win was a straight set victory over Southland Conference member Stephen F. Austin.
 
Krista Boesing leads the Bulldogs with 43 kills and is fourth on the team with seven blocks. Taylor Anderton is averaging 10.00 assists per set and Morgan St. Germain is averaging 4.56 digs per set.
