Box Score LARAMIE, Wy.-- McNeese volleyball concluded play at the Wyoming Invite Saturday with a straight set loss (23-25, 21-25, 17-25) to Pepperdine. Senior
Malina Sanchez was named to the all-tournament team after leading the Cowgirls in kills in all three matches.
In the opening set of McNeese stayed close until the last few points. Pepperdine took an early lead before the Cowgirls tied set at 22 all after scoring four straight points on two Pepperdine errors and kills by
Monica Hudgins and
Rebecca Korenek. Pepperdine would go on to score three of the next four points to take the set.
In the second set, McNeese jumped out to a 4-0 lead but Pepperdine came back to tie the set at five apiece. Pepperdine would eventually take the lead and never let it go as the Cowgirls got as close at two points (21-19).
The third set was also close at the beginning until Pepperdine took the lead for good on a Cowgirl error for a 6-5 lead. The Cowgirls would get as close as six points (20-14) on a kill by Sanchez before Pepperdine would go on a 5-3 run to take the third set and the match.
Sanchez ended the tournament with 39 kills including a match high 15 against Wyoming in the opening match of the tournament.
The Cowgirls return home Tuesday to host Jackson State at 7 p.m. before beginning Southland Conference play on the road Thursday at Northwestern State and Saturday at Stephen F. Austin
