LAKE CHARLES-- The McNeese women's basketball team will look to bounce back from its 80-55 Southland Conference opening loss at Stephen F. Austin Saturday when the Cowgirls travel to Houston, Texas on Monday to face Houston Baptist at 7 p.m. The game can be heard on the McNeese Radio Network (KJEF 1470/1290 AM). McNeese (8-5, 0-1 SLC) trailed by six points at the half at SFA but things went south from that point as the Cowgirls struggled from the field in the final two quarters. The Cowgirls will look to get back on track on the road where they haven't had that much success. McNeese enters the game with a 2-5 road record.
Senior point guard
Jayln Johnson was the only Cowgirl to reach double figures against SFA with 19 points. She leads the team in scoring with 11.9 ppg., a 93.0 free throw percent, 4.3 assists, and 1.6 steals. Sophomore
Jasmyn Carswell leads McNeese with 6.8 rpg. and a 57.6 field goal shooting percent.
Houston Baptist (5-6, 0-1 SLC) is coming off a 55-44 road loss to Northwestern State on Saturday. The Huskies have three players averaging in double figures and are led by Anna Strickland's 13.6 ppg. Strickland also leads HBU with 12.7 rpg. Also averaging in double digits is Monet Neal (12.0 ppg.), and Rachel Arthur (11.1 ppg.)
Following Monday's contest, the Cowgirls will return home this Saturday to host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 1 p.m. in its SLC home opener. The game is the first game of a doubleheader with the Cowboys.
