McNeese (7-7, 3-4 SLC) is coming off a huge road win over Incarnate Word Friday night as senior
Bettina Brulhart scored the game-winning goal to help lift the Cowgirls to their second straight league victory.
With the win on Friday night, McNeese remains in the mix for a SLC Tournament appearance. With the top six teams advancing to the league tournament, the Cowgirls sit in sixth place as of Friday night. A victory over Abilene Christian would further the chances of McNeese clinching a spot to the postseason in November.
Brulhart's game-winner was her second of the season and third goal overall while the McNeese defense posted its second consecutive conference shutout for the first time since 2013. UIW remained determined but were unable to get a goal past junior goalkeeper
Annie Bravenec, who made four saves in the game.
Abilene Christian (6-7-2, 5-1-1 SLC) rallied in the second half to defeat Lamar, 2-1, Friday night to improve its Southland Conference mark. The Wildcats have lost only one of their last five matches and have posted three shutouts in that same span. Although not eligible for postseason play, ACU currently sits third in the league standings.
Chloe Fifer has proved to be an offensive weapon for Abilene Christian with two goals and seven assists on the season. In total, seven Wildcat players have netted two or more goals this season while the defense has posted six shutouts.
Sunday's match marks the fourth all-time meeting between the two programs. McNeese leads the series with a 2-1 mark over the Wildcats while ACU took last season's meeting in two overtimes, 3-2.
