Myers Records Career High 20 Kills In Win Over Nicholls

LAKE CHARLES—McNeese volleyball senior Rae Myers recorded a career high 20 kills to lead the Cowgirls in a 3-1 (27-25, 25-16, 16-25, 25-15) Southland Conference win over Nicholls here Saturday to extend their winning streak to three matches.
 
McNeese (7-15, 3-4 SLC) had two other players record double figure kills along with Myers. Junior Jenny D'Alessandro had 12 and freshman Katelyn Elliott had 11. Elliott also led the Cowgirls with a .455 hitting percent while Myers ended the match with a .419 hitting percent.
 
The Cowgirls opened the match up by taking the first two sets with a 27-25 first set win then coming back from a 14-9 deficit in the second set to score 15 straight points behind Keegan Nelms' serve to take a 24-15 lead. After a McNeese attacking error, D'Alessandro put down one of her 12 kills to give the Cowgirls the second set win.
 
After Nicholls (5-18, 0-7 SLC) took the third set 25-16, McNeese closed out the match by taking the fourth set 25-15. McNeese opened the match by scoring the first four points behind Adison Giambrone's serve. Myers gave the Cowgirls a 6-1 lead and then an 8-4 kills. Kills by Elliott extended the Cowgirl lead to 16-11 before the Cowgirls reeled off five straight points to take a 21-11. McNeese closed out the match by winning the final three points and Myers' kill put the finishing touches on the match for the third set 25-15 win.
 
Alexandra Aguilera dished out a match high 43 kills while Bridget Justis led the defense with 20 digs. Aguilera was also credited with 12 digs and Giambrone ended the match with 11.
 
The Cowgirls will travel to Southeastern Louisiana on Tuesday before returning home to host Houston Baptist next Thursday in the first of four straight home matches.
