LAKE CHARLES-- McNeese volleyball came back from a two set deficit here Saturday to pick up a thrilling 3-2 (23-25, 15-25, 25-23, 25-21, 15-12) Southland Conference victory over Lamar.
McNeese (8-17, 4-6 SLC) snapped two match losing streak with the win. The Cowgirls struggled in the first two sets and following intermission came out of the locker room a whole different team. The picked up a 25-23 third set win then evened the match with a 25-21 fourth set win to send the match into a deciding fifth set.
The fifth set was back and forth just like three of the other sets. The fifth set included nine ties and five lead changes. With the set tied at 11 apiece, Lamar's Haley Morton was called for a setting error that gave the Cowgirls a 12-11 advantage. Rebecca Korenek and
Hailee Showers gave McNeese the fifth set win and the overall match victory.
Korenek led McNeese with a career high 18 kills and a .375 hitting percent. Showers who recorded a season high 11 kills against Houston Baptist on Thursday, equaled that with 11 today.
Jenny D'Alessandro also recorded 10 kills. Setter
Alexandra Aguilera led the Cowgirls with 54 assist and completed a double double with 11 digs.
Bridget Justis led all players with a match high 22 digs.
Lamar (5-17, 5-5 SLC) was led in kills by Chelsea Grant's 28 on the day. Ivette Dim picked up 16 kills, Amy Hollowell had 13 and Tomar Thomas ended the match with 12.
McNeese will close out its home schedule next week when they will host New Orleans on Thursday and Southeastern La. on Saturday.
