LAKE CHARLES—Coming off its first Southland Conference win of the season against New Orleans Tuesday night, McNeese volleyball will return home Thursday night to host Abilene Christian in a 7 p.m. match at Memorial Gym. Admission is free courtesy of the Lake Charles American Press.
The match will be streamed live and live stats will also be available. Links can be found on mcneesesports.com.
McNeese (5-15, 1-4 SLC) will be playing its third home match of the season and the first of six home matches this month. The Cowgirls will have an open date this Saturday then will host Nicholls next Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
The win on Tuesday was a much-needed victory and could be what the Cowgirls need to get on a roll. Four of the next six matches are against teams currently in the lower half of the conference standings.
Senior
Rebecca Korenek, who still isn't 100 percent after suffering an injury against UL-Lafayette on Sept. 6, led all players with a match high 16 kills against UNO. Korenek was also credited with four blocks. She is currently hitting .222 on the season.
Freshman
Keegan Nelms leads the team with 188 kills while fellow freshman
Katelyn Elliott has 154 and junior
Jenny D'Alessandro is right behind Elliott with 152. D'Alessandro leads the team with 44 blocks.
Sophomore
Alexandra Aguilera who ranks second in the league with 758 assists is averaging 9.59 per set. Aguilera is coming off a 38 assists night against UNO.
Senior libero
Bridget Justis ranks fourth in the SLC in conference matches only with 89 digs for an average of 4.94 per set. Justis was one of two players to record double figure digs at UNO with 13.
Abilene Christian (4-15, 3-1 SLC) enters the match on a three match-winning streak after wins over Incarnate Word, UNO, and Southeastern La. The Wildcats are the leagues top blocking team, averaging 3.19 blocks on SLC matches and rank second in service aces with 1.75.
