LAKE CHARLES – McNeese basketball will be looking to work off the turkey and dressing when it returns to action on Saturday when the Cowboys host LSU-Alexandria, the No. 5 team in the country in the NAIA ranks.
Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Burton Coliseum and will be broadcast on Cajun Radio 1290 AM and Cajunradio.com. A live stream will also be available for a small fee on McNeeseSports.com.
McNeese (1-3) is coming off a 104-65 loss at unbeated Memphis this past Tuesday in a game where the Tigers scored the first 17 points of the contest before McNeese got on the board.
The Cowboys have four players averaging double-figures in scoring, led by
Jamaya Burr with 14.3 points and closely followed by true freshman
Kalob Ledoux with a 14.0 mark.
James Harvey (11.7) and
Jarren Greenwood (10.3) round out the top scorers.
McNeese will enter the game ranked No. 1 in the Southland Conference in assist/turnover ratio and second in turnover margin at +8.67 per game.
Individually, Burr is tied for third with 4.7 assists per game and is tied for first in 3-point field goal shooting at 66.7 percent (4 of 6). Harvey is ranked eighth in 3s made per game at 2.3 while
Stephen Ugochukwu is ranked tied for second with 3.3 offensive rebounds pulled down per game.
LSUA (6-0) is coming off an 82-69 exhibition loss to Southland Conference foe Northwestern State. The Generals lost 59-53 to Southeastern Louisiana early in the year in another exhibition game. Saturday's game against the Cowboys will also be considered an exhibition for LSUA only.
The Generals' roster includes four Division I transfers, including top player, junior forward Brandon Moss of Louisiana Tech. The 6-foot-9, 185-pound forward leads the team in both scoring (16.0 ppg) and rebounding (7.3 rpg) while hitting 64 percent of his shots from the field.
Following Saturday's game, the Cowboys will take it to the road once again for a Tuesday night game at former SLC member Texas State.
