SAN ANTONIO, Texas—What looked like it would be a long match between McNeese and Incarnate Word here Saturday after the first set ended in a 32-30 score in favor of UIW, ended in a Cowgirl straight set loss 3-0 (32-30, 25-19, 25-5).
McNeese (9-20, 5-9 SLC) was hoping to salvage the week with a win after falling to regular season champs Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Thursday. The Cowgirls will conclude the regular season on the road at Nicholls and Abilene Christian next week.
The Cowgirls offense couldn't get anything going following the first set as the Cowgirls ended the match with a .073 team hitting percent. McNeese committed 23 hitting errors, five service errors and eight receiving errors.
On the other side of the net, UIW (11-16, 7-7 SLC) produced a .281 team hitting percent with eight service aces and one receiving error and 23 blocks.
Freshman
Katelyn Elliott led the Cowgirls with 12 kills and was the only Cowgirl to record double figure kills.
Bridget Justis and
Keegan Nelms led in digs with 14 and 12 apiece.
Autumn Lockley and Bryaunea Hall paced the Cardinals with 14 and 10 kills, respectively. Bryaunea hit a scorching .529 while Autumn hit .333. Sarea Alexander led all players with eight blocks.
