LAKE CHARLES—McNeese women's basketball will look to pick up its first road win of the season and snap a two game losing streak when the Cowgirls travel to Fort Worth, Texas for a 2 p.m. Sunday game at Texas Christian. The game can be heard on the McNeese Radio Network (Cajun Radio 1470 and 1290 and Cajunradio.com).
McNeese (4-3) is coming off a 66-56 home loss against Louisiana Tech on December 4
th in its only home game in the month of December. The Cowgirls fell 82-65 at Tulane on Nov. 30. The Cowgirls continue to lead the nation with 21.0 offensive rebounds per game and rank fifth in overall rebounds with 50.0 per game.
The Cowgirls are led in scoring by senior
Victoria Rachal's 13.0 ppg. and Junior
Mercedes Rogers is averaging 10.3 ppg., and leads the team with 9.4 rpg. Fellow classmate,
Frederica Haywood is right behind with 9.3 rpg. The junior ranks 19
th in the nation in offensive rebounds, averaging four per game. Freshmen
Caitlin Davis and
Mady Brasseaux are getting more comfortable to the collegiate level. Davis leads the team with 3.3 assists and a 45.5 three-point shooting percent. Brasseaux leads the squad with 1.9 steals per game.
McNeese will be without the services of junior
Jasmyn Carswell for the remainder of the season. Carswell suffered a torn ACL in the LA Tech game. She is the third Cowgirl to suffer a season ending injury this season. Both junior
Keara Hudnall and freshman
Bre'Ashlee Jones suffered torn ACL's prior to the season. Junior
Gabby Guidry will also miss the TCU game after she suffered a concussion against LA Tech. Guidry is questionable for next Tuesday's game at Louisiana-Monroe.
The teams will meet for only the second time with this being the first meeting in Forth Worth. The first meeting between the two teams occurred during the 1978-79 season at the Texas A&M-Kingsville Tournament. McNeese defeated the Horned Frogs 80-71.
TCU (5-3) is also on a two game losing streak after its 75-67 home loss against Texas A&M Thursday night. The Horned Frogs fell 67-61 at LSU on Dec. 4 in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge.
Jada Butts leads a trio of TCU players who are averaging in double figures. Butts is averaging 11.9 ppg., AJ Allix is averaging 11.0 ppg., and Amy Okonkwo is averaging 10.9 ppg. Amber Ramirez leads the team with 6.9 rpg.
Following Sunday's game, McNeese will remain on the road for a 6 p.m. game at Louisiana-Monroe on Tuesday, Dec. 13.
