Lance Potier tied a career-high with 14 points and
Jamaya Burr led the Cowboys with 17, but a 28-1 run by Louisiana-Lafayette in the final 6:29 of the first half rallied the Cajuns from a 14-point deficit to help them pull out a 92-72 win over the Cowboys at Burton Coliseum Saturday afternoon in front of 1,500 fans.
McNeese (2-5) dropped its second straight game and remained winless against Division I opponents this season. ULL (6-2) notched its sixth-consecutive win while picking up its first win in Burton Coliseum since 1999.
The Cowboys seemed to be on a mission the first 14 minutes of the game with quick, crisp passes, hitting open shots and playing aggressive on defense.
McNeese led by as many as 14 points after
Jacob Ledoux's layup with 6:29 to play in the half made it 30-16.
That's when things shut down for the Cowboys and the gates opened up for the Cajuns.
ULL point guard Jay Wright scored 10 of his game-high 28 points in the final 6:29 of the first half and the Cajuns made all 10 of their shots from the field while McNeese missed all eight of its during that span. The result was a 28-1 run by ULL to end the half and give the Cajuns a 44-31 lead at the break.
McNeese shot better in the second half but was not able to get the deficit into single digits as the Cajuns kept the Cowboys at a distance by hitting their free throws and not allowing and second chance points.
ULL hit 31 of 36 from the free throw line including 16 of 18 in the second half, and pulled down 48 rebounds while allowing McNeese to bring in just 15 boards for the game.
Cajuns' forward Bryce Washington equaled McNeese in the rebounding department with 15 of his own to go along with 10 points to record a double-double. Season scoring leader Frank Barley added 21 points while Johnathan Stove scored 20.
ULL made 28 of 58 shots for the game for 48 percent and was 5 of 16 for 31 from 3-point range for 31 percent.
McNeese 's
Kalob Ledoux added 12 points to join Burr and Potier as the team's double-digit scorers.
The Cowboys hit 24 of 50 from the field for 48 percent and was 12 of 22 in the second half and was 8 of 16 from long range. But McNeese made just 16 of 25 from the free throw line for 64 percent.
McNeese will take a break for finals before returning to action on Dec. 14 at SMU.
