Cowgirls Host UNO Tuesday At The Civic Center

LAKE CHARLES—The McNeese women's basketball teams next opponent should be fresh in their memory since that opponent will be The University of New Orleans, a team the Cowgirls defeated 77-74 in overtime in New Orleans this past Saturday. The two teams will tangle up again Tuesday at the Lake Charles Civic Center. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.

McNeese (14-7, 6-3 SLC) will be led by this week's Southland Conference Player of the Week in senior point guard Jayln Johnson. The product of Jennings, Johnson is coming off back-to-back 30-point games with a season high 31 against SE La. last Wednesday and 30 against UNO on Saturday along with seven assists. Of her 30 points on Saturday, 21 came from behind the arc where she made a career high seven 3-pointers. Johnson also scored the eventual game winning points by scoring the final three points of the game from the free throw line. She currently leads McNeese in scoring (15.6 ppg.), 5.3 assists, 1.4 steals and ranks third in the nation with a 90.5 free throw percent. Johnson leads the SLC in scoring in conference games only with 21.2 ppg.

Allison Baggett and Amber Donnes are also averaging in double figures with 13.2 and 10.1 ppg., respectively. Baggett didn't have her best shooting night on Saturday with eight points but Donnes picked up her slack by recording her first career double double with 13 points and a career high 10 rebounds. Sophomore Frederica Haywood continues to lead McNeese with 8.8 rpg. overall and is averaging 11.7 in conference games only.

UNO (6-12, 3-6 SLC) is led in scoring by Randi Brown's 17.8 ppg. overall. Brown is averaging 18.0 ppg. in SLC games only. Brown lit McNeese up with 39 points on Saturday including four 3-pointers, two beating the buzzer at the end of the second and third quarters. Shania Woods leads the Privateers with 5.0 rpg. She was credited with nine on Saturday.

McNeese will travel to Nichols on Saturday for a 1 p.m. game prior to the Cowboys' game against the Colonels.
