LAKE CHARLES-- The McNeese women's basketball team will make the trek to Conway, Arkansas for its regular season finale against Central Arkansas Saturday. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.
McNeese (19-10, 11-6 SLC) will enter the Saturday's game no worse that the fourth seed in next week's Southland Conference Tournament in Katy, Texas but could be as high as the no. 2 seed depending on results from Saturday's games across the league.
The Cowgirls are coming off a commanding 96-92 win over Nicholls in their home finale last Saturday. UCA (24-3, 14-2 SLC) will enter the SLC Tournament as the no. 1 seed and are riding a six game winning streak with its 56-51 home win over Nicholls on Wednesday. The Sugar Bears are 12-2 at home this season and have won the last three meetings against McNeese including a 70-56 win in Lake Charles on Feb. 17.
Since that loss to UCA in Lake Charles, the Cowgirls have been a different team and have gone on to win its last three games and are getting quality minutes from its bench.
Seniors
Jayln Johnson and
Allison Baggett continue to lead the Cowgirls in scoring with 14.9 and 13.7 ppg., respectively. Johnson, who became the Cowgirls' career assists leader in the win over Nicholls also leads the team in free throw percent and steals. Baggett has scored in double figures in 21 games and has scored 20 or more points in six games.
Sophomores
Frederica Haywood,
Jasmyn Carswell and
Mercedes Rogers have been a force on the boards in the last few games. Both Haywood and Rogers are coming off double-doubles. Haywood leads the team with 8.8 rebounds per contest and ranks fourth in the SLC with 10.4 in conference games only. Rogers is coming off her second double double of the season with 13 points and a career high 14 rebounds. Carswell is second on the team with 6.2 rpg. and is shooting a team high 52.1 percent from the field.
Maggie Proffitt and Brianna Mullins are both averaging in double digits for UCA. Proffitt leads with 14.9 ppg. and has a 36.0 three-point field goal percent. Mullins is averaging 10.1 ppg. Taylor Boudoin is averaging 6.3 rpg. while Raquel Logan is right behind with 6.2 per game.
