Allred Tosses A Two Hitter In 4-1 Win Over UCA

LAKE CHARLES—McNeese softball moved one step closer to clinching the Southland Conference regular season title here Friday night with a 4-1 win over Central Arkansas in the first game of a three game series. The series will conclude with a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday. Seniors Taylor Goree, Emily Vincent and Jamie Allred will be honored following Saturday's twinbill.

McNeese (37-12, 21-4 SLC) got solid pitching from Allred who quietly threw a two-hitter and had a shutout going until UCA (35-18, 16-9 SLC) scored a run in the sixth. Allred (15-3) struck out five including strikeouts for the final last two outs of the game. She gave up a single to Bailey Reynolds in the second inning and a double to Kate Myers in the sixth. The senior from Hallsville, Texas got UCA to go down in order in five of the seven innings and pitched to only four batters in both the second and the sixth innings. She gave up her only walk of the game to Sarah Bigej in the sixth.

It took a few innings before the Cowgirl bats came alive but when they did, the Cowgirls accounted for nine hits with four being doubles. Erika Piancastelli did most of the damage by going 3 for 3 with two doubles. Six other Cowgirls picked up one hit apiece. Morgan Catron and Goree also had one double apiece.

After two scoreless innings, the Cowgirls took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning when Piancastelli hit a leadoff double. A grounder to third moved Piancastelli to third before Catron's double to left brought Piancastelli home for the lead.

McNeese extended its lead to 4-0 in the fourth inning by scoring three runs on three hits. Another leadoff double started the Cowgirl rally, this one coming from Taylor Goree for her team high 13th of the season.  Goree advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Aubree Turbeville then scored on a Justyce McClain grounder to second base.  After Marisa Taunton reached on an error and stole second, Piancastelli hit her second double to left center that bounced off the wall for a 3-0 Cowgirl lead. A single by Drew scored Piancastelli for the 4-0 lead.

McNeese stayed ½ game ahead of Nicholls in the standings after the Colonels defeated Lamar 5-0 in the series opener Friday night.
