LAKE CHARLES – Despite having to adapt to another playing field for the second consecutive game, the weather did not phase the McNeese women's soccer team as the Cowgirls took down LSU-Alexandria, 2-0, in their final exhibition of the preseason.
Rainy conditions forced McNeese to move its friendly to the confines of Matt Walker Stadium on the campus of Sulphur High School. The move proved to be a good challenge for the Cowgirls who have most of their games on the road this season.
It wasn't long until McNeese took control of the game as junior
Gabi D'Alesandro scored the game-winner in the 24
th minute of the match from 18 yards out.
Senior
Bettina Brulhart upped the Cowgirls' lead to a 2-0 score in the 76
th minute after receiving a pass from
Savannah LaRicci.
Brulhart led McNeese with four shots on the night while LaRicci and Kelly Clancey tied with three.
The McNeese defense proved strong by holding LSU-A to two shots total throughout the match. Goalkeepers
Annie Bravenec and Bri Lovett each shared a half between the posts.
The Cowgirls led with 22 total shots and two corner kicks while the Generals made five saves in the match.
McNeese will open up the regular season Friday evening with its home opener against Prairie View A&M at 7 p.m.
