LAKE CHARLES – The McNeese women's soccer team returns to action on the road Friday evening when the Cowgirls head east to Baton Rouge for a non-conference tilt with Southern University.
The match, scheduled to kick off at 6 p.m., takes place at the new Jaguar Park. Due to ongoing construction, there will be no live stats or live video. However, fans can receive updates through the squad's Twitter page by following @McNeeseSoccer.
McNeese (2-0) enters the weekend on a hot streak after scoring victories over Conference USA and Sun Belt members last week. The Cowgirls defeated Louisiana Tech, 2-1, before taking down Texas State, 2-0. McNeese remains one of two Southland Conference members to remain undefeated, along with Nicholls.
Junior forward
Savannah LaRicci leads the way offensively for the Cowgirls with two goals scored while
Bettina Brulhart and
Gabi D'Alesandro each have scored one goal this season.
On the backline, junior
Nikki Schaaf was honored as the league's defensive player of the week after helping McNeese shutout Texas State and limiting Louisiana Tech to only one goal. Schaaf and the Cowgirl defense allowed only seven combined on goal shots last week.
Southern (0-1) was defeated by Nicholls, 8-0, last weekend in its season opener and will host the Cowgirls at its new home field for the first time Friday. The Jaguars return three seniors from last year's team that finished 2-15.
Following Friday's contest, McNeese continues its three-game road stretch with a match at UAB on Sunday at 1 p.m.
