Nelms Records Career High 23 Kills...Cowgirls Fall 3-1 To UCA

LAKE CHARLES—Freshman Keegan Nelms led McNeese volleyball with a double-double, posting a career high 23 kills to go along with 11 digs in a 3-1 (21-25, 25-20, 21-25, 23-25) Southland Conference loss at the hands of Central Arkansas here Saturday.

McNeese (4-13, 0-2 SLC) put up a good fight and made some outstanding defensive plays to keep several rallies going but it was UCA (8-7, 2-1 SLC) who picked up their blocking in the final two sets to come away with the win.

At intermission, McNeese was out blocking UCA 11 to 0 before the Bears made some changes at the net and ended the match by out blocking McNeese 13-2 in the final two sets of the match.

Joining Nelms in double figure kills was junior Jenny D'Alessandro who picked up 12. Nelms also led McNeese with a .450 hitting percent. D'Alessandro also led McNeese with four block assists. Senior libero Bridget Justis led all players with a match high 20 digs. Senior Rebecca Korenek returned to the court after being sidelined for the past two weeks due to an injury, made an immediate impact as soon as she stepped on the court in the third set. Korenek ended the match with a .455 hitting percent on six kills in 11 attempts and one error. Setter Alexandra Aguilera dished out a match high 48 assists and Rae Myers was credited with two service aces.

UCA was led by three players who walked away with 10 or more kills. Megan Nash led the Bears with 15 kills while Haley Tippett and Samantha Anderson had 13 and 10, respectively. Nash led the Bears' blocking attack with five, four were assisted blocks.

McNeese will return to Southland Conference action next week when the Cowgirls travel to Stephen F. Austin Thursday and Sam Houston State on Saturday.
