LAKE CHARLES – The McNeese women's soccer team will hit the road once again as it travels to the State of Texas Friday evening for a Southland Conference match with Sam Houston State with kickoff set for a 6:30 start.

The Cowgirls (5-6, 0-3 SLC) look to dig themselves out of a rut as they look for their first league victory this season. McNeese has dropped its first three matches to Southeastern Louisiana, Central Arkansas and Northwestern State, with two of those losses by two goals or less.
Offensively, the Cowgirls are averaging just fewer than two goals per game and have attempted over 12 shots per contest this season. McNeese will have to tame its speed in the upcoming weeks as it leads the league with 32 offsides calls but must also step on the gas a bit more in the first half. The Cowgirls are taking more shot attempts and corner kicks in the second half after having given up half of their goals in the first half.
However, the Cowgirls have spread the wealth around with 11 different players finding the back of the net with
Savannah LaRicci knocking in six goals and providing four assists on the season.
Sam Houston State (1-9-1, 1-1-1 SLC) scored its first win of the season in a SLC match last weekend over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 3-1, while tying Houston Baptist on the road and dropping a loss to UCA. Friday's match will be the Bearkat's first home game since Aug. 21. SHSU is led by Allie Johnson, who has scored four goals this season, while Anna Kaiser has spent a majority of the time in the net and has recorded 54 saves.
Friday's match will mark the 15th all-time meeting between McNeese and Sam Houston State, with the Bearkats holding a 9-5 lead in the series. Sam Houston has won the past eight meetings against the Cowgirls, who last scored a victory in the series back in 2007.
Following Friday's match, McNeese will travel over to Nacogdoches for a match with Stephen F. Austin. The contest is slated to start at 1 p.m. and will be streamed live on ESPN3.
