LAKE CHARLES – Coming off a big win on Friday night, the McNeese women's soccer team (10-3-1, 6-1) will host University of the Incarnate Word (2-10, 1-6) on Sunday (Oct. 15) at 1PM with Senior Day festivities to take place post-match.
"We are excited about the opportunity to honor seven great seniors who have meant so much to our program," second year assistant coach,
Nick Whiting said.
McNeese will close out its home season on Sunday after a 3-0 shutout win over Abilene Christian (4-3, 6-8). The victory not only advanced the Cowgirls win streak to three games, but also clinched a spot in the 2017 Southland Conference Tournament.
Senior
Savannah LaRicci score all three of the Cowgirls goals, her first hat-trick of her career, which came in only 19 minutes- a program record.
Incarnate Word will be looking for its first win after losing the previous five match-ups. Its most recent loss coming on Friday night in a 1-0 loss to Lamar.
The series between the two dates back to 2013, with the all-time record falling in favor of McNeese 2-1-1. In the last meeting, the 1-0 road win over the Cardinals would come at the hands of former Cowgirl,
Bettina Brulhart, assisted by
Morgan Middleton and
Kirsten Diaz.
The McNeese defense maintains its best in the league status, remaining the only team to hold opponents to an average of less than one goal per game.
Head coach
Drew Fitzgerald said, "We aren't sure what formation Incarnate Word will be in tomorrow, so it's important that we focus on making them adjust to us and putting them under pressure from the start."
