Sharrock Records Career High Assists In Win Over Lamar

BEAUMONT, Texas—McNeese volleyball came away with a 3-1 (25-22, 23-25, 25-18, 25-19) Southland Conference win here Saturday over Lamar to improve to 15-11 overall and 6-5 in conference play.
 
Today's win ties the most wins under Fitzgerald's leadership. The Cowgirls have won at least 15 matches in three of the four under Fitzgerald.
 
The match was tight in all four sets and after McNeese took the first set, Lamar came back to even the set at one set apiece.
 
With McNeese leading 20-17 in the third set and after a Lamar timeout, the Cowgirls came out on the attack to outscore the Cardinals 5-1 to take the second set 25-18 and a 2-1 match lead.
 
McNeese opened the fourth set by taking a 3-0 lead and held to lead until Lamar tied it at 11 apiece.  Lamar would move out in front for a 15-12 lead but kills by Nelms and Spree brought McNeese to within one (15-14).  Lamar would score the next point for a 16-14 lead but the Cowgirls scored two straight points and took advantage of two Lamar errors to take an 18-16 lead. Another kill by Spree upped the Cowgirl lead to 19-16. McNeese would outscore the Cardinals 6-3 the rest of the way and ended the on kills by Rae Myers and a block assists by D'Alessandro and Katelyn Elliott for a 25-19 fourth set win.
 
Sophomore Keegan Nelms had the best all-around match of her career as she led the Cowgirls with another double double (14 kills, 16 digs), her second straight and 10th of the season. Nelms also had four service aces and recorded a .343 hitting percent. Sophomore setter Angela McGownd picked up a match high 22 digs while freshman setter dished out a career high 24 assists. Adison Giambrone was credited with 19 assists while senior Jenny D'Alessandro led the front row with six blocks.
