Volleyball Concludes Home Slate This Weekend

LAKE CHARLES—McNeese volleyball returns home for its final two home matches in Memorial Gym to host New Orleans at 7 p.m. Thursday and Southeastern La. at 11:30 a.m. Saturday before moving into its new facility next season. Both matches will be streamed live and live stats will be provided. Seniors Adison Giambrone, Rae Myers and Jenny D'Alessandro will be honored on Saturday.
 
McNeese (16-11, 7-5 SLC) will look to clinch a Southland Conference Tournament spot this week. Two wins this week assures the Cowgirls a tournament spot. McNeese enters Thursday's game in seventh place, ½ match out of fifth place and one match out of fourth place. Central Arkansas, Stephen F. Austin and Sam Houston St. have all clinched tournament spots.
 
The Cowgirls have won four of their last five games and are coming off a 3-0 road win at Lamar last Saturday. The matches will be the first and only of the season against both UNO (10-14, 4-8 SLC) and Southeastern La. (2-24, 012 SLC) this season.
 
McNeese ranks fifth in the league with a .217 hitting percent and sixth in kills (1269) and service aces (135).
 
Sophomore libero Angela McGownd continues to lead the conference and ranks seventh in digs with 542 and seventh in digs per set with 5.16.
 
Fellow sophomores Shanna Spree, Keegan Nelms lead the Cowgirls in several offensive categories. Spree leads the team with a .318 hitting percent and 34 service aces while Nelms has a team high 260 kills. Spree ranks sixth in the SLC in hitting percent and seventh in service aces. Giambrone leads with 535 assists for an average of 5.10 per set.
